How We Use AI

Where AI shows up in the service, what happens to your information, and what we will never do with it.

As of last update on July 23, 2026, at Longtime Friends, LLC, we use artificial intelligence sparingly and deliberately. We were reluctant to add it at all, so we keep it on a short leash. This notice explains exactly where AI shows up in Longtime, what happens to your information when it does, and what we will never do with it.

1. Where We Use AI

We use AI in two places, both to save you typing:

  • The interview. When you describe a person or a moment in your own words, an assistant turns what you say into structured entries for you to review.
  • Search. You can search your information in plain language instead of building filters by hand.

2. What We Will Never Do

We do not use AI to:

  • make decisions about you or your relationships;
  • change, merge, or update your data automatically — every change waits for you to accept it;
  • power customer support — you will always reach a real person, by email;
  • create a chatbot, companion, or anything pretending to be a human.

3. Where Your Information Goes

When you use these features, the text you provide is sent to Amazon Web Services and processed by Amazon Bedrock, our AI subprocessor, to generate a response. It is the only third party involved, and it acts on our behalf under contract. See our Subprocessors notice for the complete list.

  • The companies that build the AI models never see it. Amazon runs the models in an isolated environment that the model providers cannot access.
  • Your information is never used to train any AI model.
  • Your prompts and their results are not retained by our AI provider by default — the processing is transient.
  • Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest, and processed in the United States.

4. What We Keep

The conversation you have with the assistant is saved in your account, so you can see what was captured. Like everything else in Longtime, when you delete it, it is deleted — there is no undo, no "soft delete," and no grace period.

5. Is It Optional?

The assistant is the primary way you add and update information in Longtime — it is central to how the product works. It only ever helps you record and find your own information; it never acts on its own, and every change it proposes waits for your approval.

6. No Sale, Ever

Using AI does not change our core promise: we never sell your information, and we never share it with anyone for their own purposes. Amazon processes it only to deliver these features to you.

7. Changes to This Notice
